She’ll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals—not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.

Összegyűlnek az országban élő alakváltók a szeles Chicagoban, és a Vámpír mester Ethan Sullivan a béke gesztusaként felajánlja vezetőjüknek egyik nagyon különleges testőrét: Merit-et. Merit feladata, hogy megvédje az alfát, Gabriel Keene-t - és kémkedjen, míg a közelükben van. Szerencsére Ethan személyesen készíti fel Merit-et a küldetésére, jónéhány egy-az-egy ellen küzdelemmel.
Meritnek el kell fogadnia a feladatot, még akkor is, ha tudja, hogy valószínűleg megbánja. És nem is téved nagyot. Valaki vadászik Gabriel Keene-re, így Merit hamarosan a tűzvonalba találja magát.
